This is so frightening to me…just last night I watched the Larmie Project about Matthew Shepard, and yet again, here is another senseless murder just for someone being gay. This murder took place last week in Oxnard, CA. However, if you are in Cincinnati, I urge to you join us for the candle light Vigil that is scheduled…See the story and details of the vigil below.
Lawrence King Vigil Details:
On Tuesday, February 13th, a fifteen year old boy named Larry King walked into his first period class at E.O. Green Junior High School in Oxnard , Calif. , and was shot in the head by a fourteen year old classmate. King was murdered, friends say, because he “freaked the boys out”; because he had worn makeup, high heels and jewelry to school, because he had started telling people he was gay. For not fitting in, he had to die.
The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) of Greater Cincinnati invites you to a vigil and memorial for this teenager’s all-too-brief life. None of us knew him, but we need to realize that the facts of his life could just as easily have occurred right here. Come join us at Xavier University on Friday evening for a candlelight vigil; it is a chance to mourn the loss of one more youth to the fears of others, as well as the opportunity to speak out and get involved, so that we make sure such tragedy need never happen again.
When: Friday, February 22nd at 7PM
Who: You, your friends, any organizations. Spread the invite far and wide.
Where: Xavier University (Park in the Cintas lot)
Directions: http://www.cintascenter.com/directions/index.cfm
