Lynch Toby Keith

August 8th, 2008

WARNING: Some of the material/photos may be offensive to some and are extremely hard to look at. You have been advised.

Yes, the title of this blog today is a bit harsh.  I realize that. To some, it may seem racist, discriminatory and in this day and age, down right idiotic.

Well, I’m only taking this from what I know of the country singer, Toby Keith. I think Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks had it right back in 2002 with her t-shirt that read, “F.U.T.K”. Remember that?

Well, Keith’s latest victory at achieving the honors of being a widely popular bigot, has gotten worse.  During his radio interview with notoriously reactionary radio host, Glenn Beck, Keith expressed his hillbilly, confederate feelings about Barak Obama like this, “I think the black people would say he don’t act, or carry himself as a black person.”  Huh? My first thought was that Keith needs to learn how to form correct English sentences. The second was the same as Glenn Becks response when he responded with “What does that even mean?”

Keith went on to say in his country drawl, “Well, I don’t know what that means, but I think that that’s what they would say. Even though the black society would pull for him I still think that they think in the back of their minds that the only reason he is in the [general election] is because he talks, acts and carries himself as a Caucasian.”

Listen for yourself:

Ladies, I couldn’t make this up if I tried.  This man has to be the biggest idiot in country music. Here is one of his album covers:

Well, with that said,  let’s look back at some of the lyrics this Grammy winner has written that has catapulted him into the highest level of bigotry in country music:

Song lyrics to “The Taliban”

So we prayed to Allah with all of our might
Until those big U.S. jets came flying in one night
And they dropped little bombs all over their holy land
Man you should have seen them run like rabbits they ran
The Taliban

 - I’m all for supporting the troops, my cousin just got back from Iraq. But its a bit unnerving to know that some of the people who listen to these lyrics are not educated enough to distinguish the difference between those who are loving, caring Muslims and who the Taliban is. Thanks to Keith, he helped fuel bigotry towards this group.

Song Lyrics to “Beer For My Horses” - stupid title if you ask me.

Grandpappy told my pappy, back in my day, son
A man had to answer for the wicked that he done
Take all the rope in Texas
Find a tall oak tree, round up all of them bad boys
Hang them high in the street for all the people to see that.

If you’re not a racist, then you wouldn’t be singing and making millions off of this:

I’m sure that I could find more, like “Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)”, but you get the point. This man is an ignorant bigot who has obviously been raised by other ignorant bigots who conditioned him to think this was okay. Which is why a lot of right wings are in denial about his actions over the years. They were raised the same way.

I wish those people didn’t take him seriously. But the fact of the matter is there are a lot of uneducated Americans that take this type of information,  incorporate it into their lives and make it their beliefs. And its not just about racism towards the African American community…I wonder, did the anti-gay murderers of Matthew Shepard, Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson listen to Toby Keith?

I would bet they did.

I’ve always hated that SOB! He is the kind of artist that makes country music look bad (not to mention he keeps this type of ignorance alive and well in the mainstream!).

After Country Concert this year I remember the reasons why I love it so much. Its because it is about real life and loving your wife/husband/family. Nothing that I heard that weekend was ignorant or bigoted. People have this perspective of country music because of people like Toby Keith. I think we should bring back the shirts F.U.T.K!!!!

I think the t-shirts are a great idea Juliette! Let’s make em!

I am a lover of all music and country happens to be one. The funny thing is that I am a mixed race lesbian. I am part Black, French and Native American, among other things. I am not going to vote for Obama cause he’s black nor because he carries himself like a Caucasian. (How ever that maybe) I am not sure who I am voting for. But it’s crazy how people make assumptions and make A**es out of themselves. I would support good music regardless of race, color, creed or sexual orientation. But Toby can’t even get my time nor my money. And yes, it is a shame that people actually listen to that garbage. For all that we might as well bring back sitting “coloreds” back on the back of the bus. Or even make “white only” bathrooms. I thought we had at least come a little farther than this. I guess I can be wrong sometimes.
